Philippines Photo Montage 6.11.15

 

Howdy, my fellow dreamers and welcome to yet another Philippines Photo Montage.  You might have noticed that we haven’t been putting up as much content on our website as I would actually like to have up, but between zipping around for the house construction, feverishly finishing up my own expat guide to the Philippines book (at 50,000 words, now), and – of course – quality nap time, I really haven’t been able to put much stuff up.  Not to fear, though, cuz I have been digging through some photos I recently took with my Samsung S5, and a few of them came out pretty good.

So, let’s get down to it, shall we…

Recognize this unruly crew?  Yep, that’s right! The house is going up pretty quickly, and although not really up to “Code,” methinks it is going to serve its purpose quite well.  The guy in the blue hat is Jun-Jun and he is Nikki and Nano’s dad (and Mama K’s son).  His sister is next to him and she is the one letting them “rent” the lot next to her for 200 pesos a month.  Oh, and by the way – you all rock for making this happen.  🙂

Ugh – that was a rough night out on the town.  I think this around my birthday (or someone else’s birthday) and the boys (Cory and I) got shanghaied into videoake.  I actually took some video of that misdavnture, and I am sure it will be up on our channel at some points.  Hey, it’s the Philippines – you gotta get down with the sickness!!  Oh, and the ladies sang like angels – Cory and I croaking into the microphone was not for the faint of heart.

This is one of Tiger’s puppies.  Tiger is the dog with the neurological condition that is the sorriest – but sweetest – dog I have yet met in the Philippines.  She likes to hobble around after me and get her ears scratched.

Speaking of animals in the Philippines – well, I actually think it’s an amphibian in the Philippines.  I’d do a Google search, but I am much too lazy.  Anyhoo, this is a baby gecko who just so happened to be waiting to greet me at the bottom of my coffee cup.  It’s a good thing I actually saw him before I poured my morning joe.  I like my coffee dark and liquid – not crunchy.

Yet another creature that lurks about in the Philippines, this one being the common cockroach.  This one isn’t all that big actually but since I have only seen three in the house in the past year, I thought I would immortalize his stunned self on our blog.  I had just wacked him with a flip flop, so he was a bit woozy.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t have risked putting my hand next to him.

Using a Chap Stick for size comparison.  Again, this isn’t a big Philippines cockroach.  And please don’t ask me why I brought Chap Stick to the Philippines.  It’s almost as useless as my bluejeans….

This was actually taken with our Sony Cybershot as I was testing the zoom function.  I was really zoomed in (it appeared as just a white dot from shore) and was pleasantly suprised to see that it came out fairly clear.  This is optical zoom – not digital zoom.  Oh, and I think it’s an egret or pterodactyl or sumhin like that…

This is what you get when you leave your Philippines drivers license at home.  Got pulled over at a PNP checkpoint 300 meters from my house.  I only had a Xerox of my license and not the original, so they impounded my bike.  Yep, that’s right, I had to get off of it, give them the keys and watch them ride off to the police station….   Later I exerted revenge my driving Michell’s RUSI without a copy of the registration OR my license.  Ha – I showed them…

And this is my Yamaha the next day after I went to bail it out of motorcycle jail.  The fine was only 50 peso, but it took a few hours to go from office to office in city hall to get papers signed.  Ah, it’s more fun in the Philippines….

I like my diesel Mitsubishi Pajero well enough, but I have also taken a fancy to this little beauty that was parked down on the boulevard the other day.  I am not too crazy about the lack of air conditinoing, but the machine guns would probably be of good use during rush hour.

Here’s the view of the passenger…er… side gunner’s position. It’s nice, but I’d probably put some nice chrome rims on it just to give it some more Filipino gangsta oomph.  Yeah, definitely spinners…

Wilkins .303 I think.  The M-2 “Ma Duece” .50 cal must be an option on the LE model…

I don’t know if I put this one up already.  This sunrise was taken on the ferry that runs between Dumaguete and the southern tip of Cebu island.  I was proably on my way to get my exit clearance in Cebu City when I took this. 

 

And finally, when you are really itching for some mountain grown, dark rich roasted coffee beans…. don’t come here.  This is the second “Fivebucks” coffee machine that I have seen in Dumaguete.  The Five bucks refers to the slang for pesos.  The coffee costs five pesos, hence the five “bucks.”

So, that’s about it for now. Michell has been with her family in Mindanao for the past week, but she will be coming back to the City of Gentle People on Saturday.

It’s a good thing, cuz I’m starting to miss her.
