House Construction Costs as of 6.15.15

The house is coming along quite well, and we’ve finally gotten a stock list of all the items that have been purchased and labor costs to post up.  We had originally raised $1,180 for the house build (back when we thought it was going to just be a nipa house) and Michell and I also had donated $200, bringing the total to $1,380.  At present exchange that is about 61,000 pesos.  We have gone over that and we still have about a weeks labor left, so we are going to open up the donation drive again.  We are looking for about $500 to cover the cost of another week labor, water fittings for the CR and a few other things that they’ll need.  We also have a secret donor (hi, mom and dad) who will be adding something of their own.  After we get the $500, we will shut down the drive.

NOTE:  If you are reading this and click on the Paypal donation button and it says “Donation Drive is Over!,” only donate if you feel like giving to our operating expenses as that means we have already reached our goal.

All individual donations can be tracked at our website here!

  1. I am playing the game of looking over your shoulder. Of which inatly is not fair…but…I have donr , to date, three major construction jobs. Two rehabs and one complete house build. The rule of thumb…time estimate of the build should bt increased by 50 % and estimated cost should increased by 30 to 50%. So, just raise the capital to just finish the job correctly. Sir, I am a jaded been there, done that type of guy. And my intuition tells me that you and Michel are honerable people. Raise the proper amount of money to build anf finish a proper house. If any excess. ..spend it on the kids, cloths, books wnd of coarse candy. Your ultra conservative methodology is getting in the of positive progress. On another note. I send balikbayan boxes to friends and some deserving families. Inwould like to send one to the children. If you feel this will be appreciated, send a address that will get to you. I will need some phone number. LBC requirements. I am aware that both of you wish a portion of animinity. Figure out what ever is confertable for both of you. Take care, Tom.

  2. You guys are doing a great job for these kids and they will be better off for it their entire lives. Great work. These projects are always this way and you have controlled the cost really well I believe.

  3. Hi I’m thinking of coming to Philippines in the next month or two. I would like to stop by and visit you and make a donation in person. Are you in Dumaguete City?

  4. Ned, I am coming to the Philippines in January 2016 and I am packing up a couple of boxes for children, can you give me some direction on what is needed the most. I have school supplies and some food and clothing. What is the most needed? Thank you and Michell for all the fantastic work you are doing.

P.S. So far the book is great!

  5. Ned, My name is Vincent, The Kid’s Housing project is awesome. Cost effectiveness was fantastic. You and Michelle will be blessed! Those children will remember what you have done for them. That community will be better off because of your foresight. I’ve visited the Philippines three times and enjoyed my stay in Dumaguete. It was business 2013. On my third trip In December of 2013 I came back specifically to be a blessing to one of the communities that was hit by Typhoon Haiyan, known as Super Typhoon Yolanda. I fell in love with those people. I’m coming back there this year, schedule permitting. I’m a general contractor, and I Fix and Flip Real Estate in the Chicago-land area. I’m retiring from Real Estate soon. I would like to visit you on my next trip! My goal is to be as proficient as I can on my next return! Your videos, are entertaining, excellent insight into the mind-set of the people that live and work within that province. I’m going to check out your library of videos, most of my questions will probably be answered there. Chat with you soon!

    1. Thanks for the feedback, Vincent! Yeah, the house project came out well and everyone involved made out. We actually have not been by to visit them in a few months, so we need to do that. Jun Jun was really sick for a while, but he seems to be doing better. Thanks again!

  6. Hi Ned
How are you? Hope you and Michelle are doing great. My wife and I have been watching your videos for over two years as well as Reekay’s videos. We have learned a lot about the Philippines thanks to youl. By the way, I am Anthony and my wife is Vivian. We live in Texas. My wife is from the Philippines, ofcourse. We have been married for 7 years and live here in all good USA. I brought my wife to USA on fiancé visa after 18 months of communication via emails and phone conversations. We got married here in Texas. We are very happy together. I just took early retirement and now moving to Philippines for good after I learned all the good stuff about the Philippines from you and Reekay’s videos. We are flying next month, Apr 13 to the Philippines. We sold all our belongings here and now ready for the new life over there. We are very excited, but to be honest with you I have some fear of the unknown because I never lived outside USA. My wife’s family lives in General Santos city. We are thinking about living in a condo at first in Davao city for six months and see how life treats us there. If things go well, we might rent a bigger house and settle down there. Dumaguete seems a good option as well but I like to try Davao first and see how things go. Ned..! Let me tell you something…..marrying my beautiful Filipina wife was the best thing I’ve done in my life. You will never ever ever regret marrying Michelle because the Filipina is full of passion, love and loyalty that we men are starving for. So Congratulations to you and Michelle on your decision to get married. Trust me your life will change for the best. Hope to meet you and Reekay soon and maybe have a drink or two to celebrate the new happy life in the Philippines.

    1. Thanks for contributing all of that, Anthony. I have never been to Davao but have heard good things about it. And your fear makes sense – pulling up stakes and moving halfway around the world is a major undertaking. Thanks for your story and good luck on your personal adventure!!
